Overview The Kiwanis Club of Albuquerque Scholarship Fund exists to honor graduating high school seniors who have demonstrated substantial community service and solid academic achievement. Established to highlight students with a meaningful record of volunteer involvement, the fund awards between one and four scholarships each year, with individual awards of up to $1,000. Who may apply (Eligibility) - Graduating seniors from an Albuquerque metropolitan area high school (includes Bernalillo, Sandoval, Valencia, and Torrance counties). - Students planning to pursue a career in child development and/or teaching are especially encouraged to apply. - Applicants must plan to attend a nonprofit or public college or university (either a 2‑year or 4‑year institution) as a full‑time student. Selection criteria and minimum requirements - Minimum cumulative GPA: 3.0. - Minimum ACT composite: 23 (note: ACT score was not required in 2022). - Demonstrated record of community service. - Preference will be given to students who plan careers in early childhood development and/or teaching and to those who are active in Key Club. Application components Prepare and submit the following materials: - An essay addressing: - The importance of community service, - Your career goals (applicants planning work in early childhood development and/or teaching will receive preference), - A statement describing your financial need. - One reference letter from a school counselor or teacher (one page, single-sided only). - One additional reference from a person who can attest to your community service involvement. Award information - One to four scholarships awarded annually. - Each award may be up to $1,000. Notes - Applications are evaluated based on academic performance, service history, essay responses, references, and alignment with the scholarship’s preferred career focus. - Be sure to follow the single-sided, one-page requirement for the counselor/teacher recommendation.
