Oklahoma Chapter of NAHRO Scholarship

Overview
The Oklahoma Chapter of NAHRO is offering a one-year scholarship in the amount of $1,000. The award is intended for current high school seniors or students already enrolled in an accredited college, university, or vocational training program who meet the eligibility criteria described below. Eligible applicants include household members receiving Public Housing or Section 8 assistance, household members of families who have received housing assistance from a qualified Community Development Agency, or children of employees of a Housing Authority or Community Development Authority.

Award details
- Total amount: $1,000 for one academic year, disbursed directly to the recipient’s accredited college, university, or vocational school.
- Payment schedule: $500 per semester.
- Renewal: The scholarship may be renewed annually contingent upon submission of updated recipient information and the Chapter’s available funds. Renewal requires proof of continued full-time enrollment and maintenance of at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA.

Who should apply
Graduating high school seniors and currently enrolled students associated with an Oklahoma NAHRO member agency are encouraged to submit an application.

Selection criteria
Recipients will be chosen after review of the submitted application materials, academic transcripts, letters of recommendation, the applicant’s written essay, and evidence of community involvement.

Eligibility requirements
Applicants must satisfy all of the following:
1. Residency/Association requirement: The applicant must meet one of these conditions:
- Be a household member of a family currently receiving assistance under the Public Housing or Section 8 program; OR
- Be a household member of a family which is currently receiving, or has received within the previous twelve (12) months, housing assistance from a Community Development Agency; OR
- Be a child of a paid, non-probationary employee of a Housing Authority or Community Development Agency.
In addition, applicants must be nominated by a member in good standing of the Oklahoma Chapter of NAHRO.
2. Academic performance: Maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale through the first semester of the senior year (for high school seniors) or through the most recent semester of enrollment (for college/vocational students).
3. Enrollment status: Maintain full-time undergraduate enrollment (minimum 12 credit hours per semester or equivalent) at an accredited college, university, or vocational training institution.

Application instructions and required documents
Complete the online application and attach all required documentation. Applications will not be considered unless the following items are included:
- Official high school transcript or the most recent college/university/vocational school transcript.
- SAT and/or ACT score report, or College Assessment Test score report.
- Two letters of recommendation from community or civic leaders.
- A personal essay (no more than 1,000 words) explaining why the applicant wishes to pursue a college or vocational degree.

Agency certification form
Prior to beginning the online application, download the agency certification form and have it completed by the Executive Director/CEO of the applicant’s agency. There is a field in the online application to upload the completed certification form.
