United States Navy Memorial Scholarship — Overview
The United States Navy Memorial received an endowment from the widow of Chief Petty Officer Galen W. Freise, USN. Her gift directs the Memorial to provide a scholarship designated for the grandchildren of deceased Chief Petty Officers (E7, E8, E9). This award is administered by the US Navy Memorial under the name “United States Navy Memorial Scholarship.”
Eligibility
Applicants will be considered if they meet all of the following conditions:
- Are a grandchild of a deceased Chief Petty Officer (E7, E8, or E9) of the United States Navy or the United States Coast Guard. Applicants should be prepared to submit documentation to confirm the relationship and the service member’s status.
- Have been accepted to, or are currently enrolled in, an accredited two‑year or four‑year college or university, or an accredited vocational/trade school.
- Seek funding for undergraduate degree work or for vocational/trade certifications; awards are limited to these types of programs.
Ineligible Applicants
The following are not eligible for the scholarship:
- Students whose education is fully funded by a full‑ride scholarship (no other tuition/fees remain).
- Individuals who have been selected to attend a federal military service academy or who are currently enlisted in the Reserves.
