Introduction
The ONF provides scholarships for students pursuing careers in ornamental horticulture and related disciplines. There are 21 distinct awards funded by individual donors and OAN chapters to help develop the next generation of green industry professionals. The ONF scholarship committee selects recipients each spring. Applications are judged on career goals in horticulture, academic performance, and financial need.
Who is eligible
Students preparing for a career in ornamental horticulture or closely related fields are eligible to apply. A full list of available scholarships is posted on our List of Scholarships page. When you submit an application, it will be reviewed for all applicable awards rather than for a specific named scholarship. Final decisions about which applicants receive grants are made at the committee’s sole discretion.

- Application opens: January 1, 2026
- Application deadline: April 15, 2026
What to have ready before you begin
Gather the following documents and information before starting the online application to ensure a smooth process:
- High school information: school name and address, cumulative GPA, SAT or ACT scores (if available), and a PDF copy of your high school transcript.
- College information (if applicable): college names and addresses, cumulative GPA(s), and PDF copies of college transcripts.
- Employment history (past 3 years): employer names and addresses, phone numbers, and a description of your job responsibilities.
- Activities and honors: a list of extracurricular activities, clubs, leadership positions, and awards from both school and non-school organizations.
Cover letter
Prepare a one-page cover letter that addresses the following items in this order:
1. How you plan to be involved in horticulture in the future.
2. A description of your financial need.
3. Your OAN affiliation, if you have one.
References
Include two current reference letters that speak to your abilities or interest in horticulture.
