Introductory summary Dr. Jack Terry was born in Poland in 1930. As a child he endured the Holocaust, losing his entire family and surviving the horrors of three Nazi concentration camps. At the end of World War II an American Army officer found him alone in the camp and arranged for his passage to the United States. Life and accomplishments When he arrived in the U.S. Jack was 15 years old, had only an elementary school education, and did not speak English. He persevered—completing high school and college while working, becoming a geological engineer, and later attending medical school to train as a psychoanalyst. He also served two years in the U.S. Army as a 1st Lieutenant, excelled as an athlete, and was a devoted father and grandfather. In his later years Dr. Terry dedicated much of his time to speaking with students, sharing his experiences to educate others and inspire hope. Purpose of the scholarship This scholarship honors the extraordinary life of Dr. Jack Terry by providing financial support to students who have faced significant hardship or adversity. Eligibility - Must be a high school senior. - Minimum cumulative GPA: 3.0. - Demonstrated limited financial resources to cover the cost of higher education. Applicants who meet these criteria and who have overcome challenges in their lives are encouraged to apply.
