Overview
The Aronovitz family, in partnership with The Miami Foundation, established this scholarship to commemorate the late Judge Sidney M. Aronovitz. Judge Aronovitz was known for professional excellence and a commitment to helping those less fortunate. The award supports minority students from Miami‑Dade County who plan to continue their education at the university level and intend to pursue careers in the legal field or in work advancing social justice.

Applications must be submitted online by Sunday, March 15, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.
How to apply
- Apply only through The Miami Foundation’s scholarship portal: scholarships.miamifoundation.org.
- On the site, click “scholarship portal” (located on the right) to create an account. After registering, select “2026 Judge Sidney M. Aronovitz Memorial Scholarship.”
- The Foundation will not accept mailed, faxed, or emailed applications—online submission only.
- Carefully review your application to ensure all required fields are completed before submitting.
Award use
If selected, scholarship funds may be applied toward eligible educational costs up to your institution’s published cost of attendance, as determined by the college or university. Note: awards are intended for undergraduate study only.
Eligibility requirements
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be a minority student planning to pursue a career related to the legal field or social‑justice work (efforts to promote fairness, equity, and support for marginalized communities).
- Be a Miami‑Dade County public school student who is either a high school senior graduating in Spring 2026 or a GED recipient who is no older than 19 years of age.
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
Selection process and criteria
A Scholarship Advisory Committee will evaluate applications and make final award decisions. Evaluation will consider:
- Career and academic plans connected to law or social‑justice initiatives
- School involvement, volunteer service, work experience, and community engagement
- Strength of letter(s) of recommendation
- Academic achievement
- Demonstrated financial need
- Commitment or intent to return to Miami‑Dade County after college to contribute to the community
