North Carolina Triangle Area Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Assistance League Triangle Area
Overview
This scholarship is needs-based and open to students who meet the residency, citizenship/immigration, enrollment, academic and documentation requirements listed below. Complete applications and supporting materials must be submitted by March 1, 2026.
Eligibility and required materials
1. Residency: You must live in Wake, Durham, or Orange County.
2. Citizenship/Immigration: Be a U.S. citizen or provide proof of permanent resident status.
3. Enrollment: Be enrolled at (or planning to attend) a nonprofit post‑secondary college or technical school in North Carolina.
4. FAFSA/SAR: Upload a full copy of your FAFSA or Student Aid Report (SAR). Apply at www.studentaid.ed.gov/fafsa. If your FAFSA is not yet available, enter a note in the FAFSA field stating it will be available mid‑March and upload the completed form as soon as you receive it. Returning students may submit last year’s FAFSA if that is all they have.
5. Transcripts:
- High school applicants: submit a transcript covering seven semesters and including fall semester grades, or provide a GED.
- College applicants: submit a college transcript showing the most recent fall semester.
6. GPA: Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
7. Test scores: High school applicants must provide SAT and/or ACT scores.
8. Income documentation: Upload a copy of your parents’ federal income tax return. If you are completely independent from your parents, upload your own tax return. Remove or black out all Social Security numbers before submitting.
9. Application completeness: Answer every question on the application. Because this is a needs‑based award, you must show financial need.
10. Student ID: Provide your college student ID number when requested so funds can be credited properly.
11. Letters of reference: If you are a high school applicant or an undergraduate who is new to this scholarship, secure at least two reference letters. Returning scholarship recipients need only one letter. Tell your referees to upload letters at scholarship.altriangle.org.
12. Deadline: Submit your full application by March 1, 2026.
Important: References can only upload their letters after you submit your application. Submit early so your recommenders have time to upload their letters.
What we will provide and how we handle your application
1. Review and notification: We will evaluate applications and notify applicants by email of decisions by May 1.
2. Interviews: The Scholarship Committee may request interviews at its discretion.
3. Award amounts: Scholarships range from $1,000 to $7,500.
4. Disbursement: Awards are paid directly to your school and must be used for tuition or other educational expenses. Funds will be applied for the summer and/or fall semester. Provide your student ID so the school can credit the funds correctly.
5. Unused funds: If you withdraw before completing the academic year, we will collect any unused scholarship funds from the institution.
6. Confidentiality: We will protect your information. FAFSA/SAR documents do not display Social Security numbers; you should have blacked out SSNs on any tax returns you submit.
7. Assistance: We will answer questions about the process if you need help.
Note: For many students attending a junior (community) college, this scholarship may cover most or all educational expenses.
