Robert A. and Catherine A. Janson Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Mt. Pleasant Area Community Foundation
Introduction
Bob and Cathie Janson created this scholarship to help students from Mt. Pleasant and Oasis High Schools pursue further study at a community college or four‑year university. Education has been central to their lives, and this fund is their way of encouraging others to continue their academic journeys.
About the Jansons
Bob Janson grew up in Frankenmuth and was the first person in his family to earn a college degree, graduating from Central Michigan University. He went on to a 35‑year career in education that began as a teacher and coach in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. After completing advanced studies at Eastern Michigan University and Wayne State University, he became superintendent of Lakeview Public Schools. In 1981 the Jansons relocated to Mt. Pleasant, where Bob served as superintendent from 1981 until 1997.
Cathie Janson, raised in suburban Detroit, was also the first in her family to graduate from college, earning her degree from Central Michigan University. After marrying Bob, she started teaching with Lakeview Public Schools. Upon moving to Mt.
