Friends of Saint Louis Municipal School of Nursing Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Greater St. Louis Community Foundation
Introduction
The Friends of Saint Louis Municipal School of Nursing Scholarship honors the work of the Friends of Saint Louis Municipal School of Nursing, an organization founded in 1954 to support students enrolled in the nursing program that supplied nurses to City Hospital. The scholarship was established as a fund at the St. Louis Community Foundation in 2007 to continue that support.
Who may apply
This scholarship is available to academically eligible undergraduate students who have been accepted into an accredited nursing program located within the City of St. Louis and who can demonstrate unmet financial need. “Unmet financial need” is generally calculated as the cost of attendance minus the total of the student’s grant aid from other sources plus the Student Aid Index (as shown on the student’s FAFSA Submission Summary). Applicants may be enrolled full-time or part-time and may be pursuing a diploma, an Associate’s degree, or a Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
Eligible schools
- Barnes-Jewish College Goldfarb School of Nursing
- Saint Louis University School of Nursing
- St. Louis Community College at Forest Park
How applicants are chosen
Applications are reviewed for academic record and potential for continued success, strength of the personal essay and recommendations, and demonstrated commitment to a career in health care. Preference will be given to students who show a likelihood of returning to work in the City of St. Louis after completing their training and who meet the academic and financial criteria. Award decisions and amounts are based on information supplied by applicants, families, and schools. Because this scholarship addresses remaining financial need after other grant aid is accounted for (loans excluded), award amounts may vary from year to year. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. Answer every applicable question, even if it is not labeled “required.”
Renewal details
Recipients may be considered for funding for up to four years in total, provided they submit annual renewal materials and supporting documents on time. Renewal applicants must demonstrate satisfactory academic progress toward their nursing credential and continued financial need. Annual award amounts may change due to available fund levels and changes in demonstrated need.
Notification timeline
Decisions will be reflected in applicants’ Scholarship Central accounts in June: each submitted application will be updated to either “offered” or “denied.” Applicants should check their Scholarship Central account to view status.
